Learning Outside the Classroom website

Helping to launch Learning Outside the Classroom

16 October 2008

Oculus recently embarked on a large-scale project with CfBT Education Trust to design and build a website for the Learning Outside the Classroom partnership, with a challenging deadline. The website, designed to help professionals working with young people aged 0–19 provides high-quality experiences and supports the Government programme based on the ethos that ‘every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances’.

In-depth content and self-managed
The resource-rich website contains guidance and continuing professional development (CPD) modules, which provide practical, professional and development support that meet identified training needs. End users are also able to add content as well as educational experts. The website has supporting utility features such as an advanced search tool and is structured into seven main areas:

  • Out and about guidance
  • CPD modules
  • News and events
  • Case studies
  • Resources
  • Quality badge attainment
  • Council for LOtC

The launch is just the beginning
When it was launched in October 2008 the website contained well over 300 pages with over 200 downloadable files. It runs on the Kentico .NET content management system (CMS) platform and is hosted on two dedicated servers.

But this is only really the start – in the future, far more functionality and content will be added.

“ Thanks for all your hard work on the LOtC website. Oculus has provided fantastic advice and support and even when I have stretched your set deadlines to the extreme, you have always delivered. ”
