New-look QCDA brand raises profile
02 March 2009
The Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) is the Government agency for the development of the curriculum, delivery of assessments and the reform of qualifications, recently derived from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
Our client, QCA, needed its new identity during July 2009, prior to legislation to formally separate into two organisations – regulatory Ofqual and development agency QCDA – in order to differentiate it from Ofqual, which started operating in 2008.
QCA required the new brand to eliminate misalignment between its former name and the change of function, whilst building on its strong heritage within the education sector. Oculus was selected from among eight agencies to reinvent the organisation’s identity and reflect its new remit, positioning and profile.
We produced nine proto-designs to reflect a modern, engaging and collaborative government agency, indicating how these might fit within a magic quadrant of the many other brands within the education sector. QCA chose two for development, before making its final selection.
Subsequently, we developed a full set of brand guidelines for implementation across the range of QCDA communications – from text-heavy and instructional publications, through to newsletters and promotional material for its various audiences. The guidelines will help ensure consistency and professionalism to inspire confidence and trust.
QCDA believes that its new identity both communicates its new role with clarity and conveys its commitment to using the power of education to transform people’s lives.
“ Thanks to everyone at Oculus for helping ensure we hit this important deadline today. We really appreciate it when we know that our colleagues and partners are pulling out all the stops too. ”
